Top 5 Golf Etiquette Rules Every Beginner Should Know (Don't be that person!)

Just picked up a sweet new set of golf clubs (Hopefully from Mysterygolfstore.com) and heading out to the course? Before you start smashing that golf ball, there are a few unspoken rules of the game. They aren't complicated, but trust me when I say this will save you from many bad looks, and keep the flow of your game moving too!

Golf Rules & Burrowing Animals: What Counts and Relief

Rule #1: ALWAYS let faster players through!

If your group is slower, or just simply wants less pressure and to have an overall better time without people tailgating you on the course, let the faster groups behind you play through at the next hole. This is a big sign of respect, and usually is a good chance to get to know people out there.

Rule #2: Be quiet and stay out of line of sight during a person's swing!

If you see someone is about to tee off or hit any shot, for that matter, make sure to stay out of their line of sight (don't get hit by their backswing either) and be silent. I'm sure, as you all know, any sudden noise is difficult. Don't be that person who ruins your buddy's (or strangers) 10000-yard drive.

Rule #3: Always fix your ball marks and divots!

If you hit a BANGER, and it lands on the green, please, please grab a tee or ball mark tool and pop that ball mark where your ball impacted back out. There's nothing worse than finally getting onto the green and sending out a beautifully hit putt, and it gets bumped off line by someone else's unrepaired ball mark. The same goes for fairway divots. If you are on a cart, there's usually a little bottle with sand to fill those beautiful divots you just created or if you took a beautiful beaver tail (strip of grass) then simply place it back into the divot and step on it. If you want to be an extra good Samaritan, fix any others you see around you, too.

Rule #4: Don't step on another player's line!

The line between a player's ball on the green and the hole is sacred. Stepping on that route may (or may not) influence the way the ball rolls. Simply go around the line that this player might use.

Rule #5: Spend some time at the range and/or get lessons!

Trust me, as eager as you are to get out there on the course, make sure you are able to comfortably hit the ball (Distance doesn't matter) before you take your talents to the course. Out on the course on a busy weekend isn't the best place to learn to hit the ball.

Bonus tip!:

Dress the part! Try to avoid denim jeans or too casual clothes. Look good, feel good, play good!
